This grant would provide eight sets of four layer pull down maps (a combination of physical and political maps of California, The United States, and The World) three pull down maps of California (Political Maps), and one globe ball with cradle showing ocean currents. These maps will be installed in twelve classrooms

Ceramic Klin Replacement

Because there is basic aging deterioration to the refractory lining of the kiln there are no options except to replace the kiln. The project contemplated is simply to replace the well used but geriatric kiln and the accessories that are associated with the replacement. The kiln proposed is the current version of the kiln now in use and has a 45 year life span.

ELD Newcomers

STAR Math Computer Software

This grant application is for STAR Math software, to be used by 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. This program allows the student to show his/her knowledge beyond grade level and gives the teacher accurate assessment information in order to teach to the child's needs.

GEMS Kits, Literature books and Science Materials

The aim of the GEMS Kits to meet the multiple academic needs of all children in an inquiry based classroom. They offer many opportunities for students to learn scientific concepts in a variety of engaging ways. The GEMS Kits selected are part of the Lawrence Hall of Science GEMS Units, Great Explorations in Math and Science.

CELL and Exll Training

Teacher Training for two teams at each elementary site for this program already in place at Kings Beach Elementary (funded by money not available at all sites.) Effort to coordinate teaching practices District Wide. The program is designed to support English Language Learners and children with special needs. High progress children are encouraged to continue their rapid growth while low progress children are guided through the process with continuous support. Teachers are trained in assessment procedures to improve their observation of children to better inform instruction.
