Grant Description

The newly adopted math curriculum, Everyday Math, integrates literature into many of the lessons.  This grant would provide funding to purchase many of the recommended books that did not come with the adoption, but are integral to successful instruction and concept development.

Program Objectives (10 points)

The objective of this grant is to supply the literature linked to the Everyday Math lessons.  Integrating literature into the math curriculum enriches the lessons and activities, provides reinforcement of topics and can prompt meaningful discussions among scholars.  Using literacy to enhance mathematical understanding is research based and integral in fostering deep understanding.

Success of Program (20 points)

The success of this grant will be measured by the connections generated for students on specific math topics and the understanding measured by both summative and formative assessments.

Implementation (20 points)

The purchased literature books will be located in a central location to allow access by all TK/K teachers at Tahoe Lake.  Lessons will be staggered to allow the needed book to be available to all classes, including Resource and Special Day.
