Description (10 points)

The main objective is to engage students and increase achievement across the curriculum. Flocabulary's "The Week in Rap" presents academic content in a highly-engaging, contemporary format. Videos let the topic speak for itself, providing students with both visual and aural exposure. Videos can be used for introducing new topics, reviewing, and providing enrichment.

Success of Program (10 points)

Flocabulary's multisensory approach of using music, rhythm and rhyme is supported by a profound body of academic research. Music facilitates memorization and recall of academic content, while the use of hip-hop and other culturally-relevant media increases student engagement.

At ACMS, we will measure success by increased student engagement, increase in STAR reading scores, and increase in state tests.

Implementation (10 points)

The methods for implementation are by teacher discretion.  Flocabulary songs, videos and exercises are designed to fit into the curriculum in a variety of ways.  Teacher can use videos and lessons flexibly for introduction, enrichment, differentiated instruction and test prep.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Since this grant covers all subject areas, it definitely ties into our subject specific and grade-level PLC's.  We would use PLC time to create lessons around Flocabulary.
