Grant Description

Class rugs are requested for our primary grade classroom to support academic learning. Rugs are printed with the alphabet, shapes, numbers, etc. to be used on top of hard wood floor in order to provide student safety, comfort, and added academic and instructional support.

Description (10 points)

To provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive learning environment for young students during circle time, reading time and share time in conjunction with the District adopted Daily 5/CAFE and Daily 3 Math routines. Currently, our K-3 classroom has no soft space to accommodate a safe and comfortable learning environment.

Benefits of Program (10 points)

Donner Trail would like to purchase fire-retardant floor seating (seats, pillows and small carpets) for a comfortable space for kids to read independently in the classroom (as recommended by the Daily 5/CAFE authorities), to participate in classroom sharing that promotes speaking and listening, and to listen to and reflect on classroom read alouds/circle time.

Success of Program (10 points)

Students will be able to sit quietly, comfortably and calmly for safe and effective learning.

Implementation (10 points)

Students will immediately use soft space for circle time, sharing time, Daily 5/CAFE and Daily 3 Math blocks.

Soft spaces will be used for several years. No additional funding is required.
