Description

Raz Kids:  A leveled reading program with comprehension questions and assessments.    There are nonfiction and fiction benchmark assessment passages for each reading level.  The online running record feature includes a recorded retelling capability and interactive quizzes.  This is a self-paced, motivational reading program with hundreds of leveled books. Students can: •  Listen to books for modeled fluency•  Read books with pronunciation and vocabulary support•  Record their reading.

We would like to purchase a RazKids license for each of our K, 1, and 2 classrooms, our ELD classroom, our Tech Lab, one third grade classroom, one fourth grade classroom, and one fifth grade classroom (each to be maximized a resource during our blended ELD deployment).  (16 total licenses for one year)

Benefits of Program

To improve reading comprehension, decoding and fluency.  To foster a love of reading.  To gain knowledge while reading non-fiction and ignite imaginations while reading fiction.  While Raz Kids is most commonly used in our K-2 classrooms, students at upper elementary levels who are reading below grade level also benefit from the program.  Raz Kids is a resource that supports our Daily 5 Read to Self and Listen to Reading activities that allow students individualized reading practice in a structured language arts environment.

Success of Program

The program shows students progressing through the levels.  Teachers and parents can monitor progress, send messages, assign activities and assessments and check for understanding.

Success "looks like" students progressing in the program and celebrating progress!

Implementation

Students will be able to access this program daily in our classrooms with iPads or Chromebooks depending on the grade level, at home daily, and then weekly in our Tech Lab.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Yes!  Raz Kids supports state adopted content standards for reading as well as speaking and listening.

Sustainability
Recent shifts in funding for our intervention require us to reach out to Excellence in Education for support with the cost of licensing for RazKids for the upcoming school year. Moving forward, Truckee Elementary plans to use site funds to purchase future licenses as we reorganize intervention and technology resources and are able to reallocate funding.
