Description (10 points)

The Public Safety program is currently the only Career Technical Education (CTE) that supports High School students attending different district High Schools. The program currently has students attending from Sierra High School and Truckee High School. Last year we had students attending from North Tahoe High School, and the hope is we will have more attendance from NTHS in the future. The Public Safety program focuses on Emergency Response incorporating firefighting and emergency medicine into the curriculum. We work very closely with the Truckee Fire Protection District in trainings and program development.

The focus of the CTE programs is to introduce the students to the particular emergency response careers. In the fields of firefighting and emergency medicine the professionals wear uniforms. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Fire Academy programs also require their cadets/student to wear uniforms. The CTE programs I have visited supporting firefighting and emergency medicine also have their high school students wearing uniforms. I believe uniforms are an important part of understanding and mimicking the emergency response professions. The uniforms also give the students a sense of purpose and pride.

Benefits of Program (10 points)

The Public Safety uniforms would have many benefits to the program. First and foremost, they mimic the professions. Second the uniforms would support the students sense of purpose. Third, they would give the students a sense of pride. In my experience when students feel both a sense of purpose and a sense of pride they present themselves at a higher level and they accomplish tasks with greater understanding and success.

Success of Program (10 points)

I have alluded to many of the area that the uniforms will create success in the previous sections. To add one more area the uniforms will help identify who we are when we are at trainings and other events.

Implementation (10 points)

The students will be expected to be in uniform for class and any class organized training or event.

Sustainability
The different pieces to the uniform will have different terms of longevity.
