Description

The Kindergarten team at Glenshire Elementary is excited to support our students’ developmental phases with a multisensory approach. This project will support all three kindergarten classes. In order to implement this project we are requesting a sensory table, multi-function bins, scented sensory fillers, and hand tools. This project will enhance character development, imaginative play, speaking and listening skills, fine and gross motor skills, conflict solution, independent exploration, and application of learning.

Benefits of Program

Sensory bins offer all of our young scholars a play-based learning approach that stimulates multiple senses. As children pour, scoop, and move objects with their hands and small hand tools, they activate multiple senses as kinesthetic learners. Sensory bins allow students an opportunity to engage in learning activities with a small group of peers. This allows students to improve their language development with speaking and listening skills. Sensory bins also improve students’ fine motor skills, independent play, and imaginative play. Sensory play also helps students focus on tasks and learning objectives. Sensory bins are an engaging classroom tool that can be integrated into both English Language Arts and math instruction. Children love to practice their skills through play-based learning with exciting sensory bins. Incorporating natural wood products will provide an extension of our Sierra Nevada environment in the classroom. This will benefit our ELL students as they develop their speaking and listening skills and specifically target prepositions as well. These sensory bins are calming and will benefit our students' self-regulation skills. Sensory bins are an instructional classroom tool that benefits all learners.

Success of Program

If students are successful in working independently, problem-solving skills, working collaboratively, and using appropriate social skills, then the students will be able to apply those skills to their academic learning. Student engagement and focus with the sensory bin will give the students the tools they need to engage and focus during academic learning.

Notes

We have been trying to build sensory bins for the past three years and have done a lot of research on products and sellers. We are really excited about this collection and the amazing opportunities it will provide for our scholars.
