  • Parent Participation in Bilingual Advisory Commitees - Krusa
    This grant will assist in encouraging parent participation in schools' Bilingual Advisory Commitiees and in the District Bilingual Advisory Commitee by providing educational child care. These parent meetings serve as valuable communication tools between schools, teachers and the hispanic community. - $2126

  • Egg Painting - Yagura
    This is a multi-site, multi-class workshop to create a series of stories painted on eggs, inspired by what the childrenn have learned about the fragility of the world and caring. Each class will be involved in an in-depth 3 week workshop. Ideas will originate from classroom discussions and by the artist, Cathee van Rossem St. Clair. The focus will be the enviornment, endangered species and various cultures throughout the world. In addition a professional performer - a Zulu from Africa - will enrich several classes with storytelling, dance and music. Our funds will cover the cost of materials - including 2976 eggs! - $1800
  • Full Option Science System Modules - Fahrner
    Full Option Science System Modules (F.O.S.S) will be purchased with the from this grant. These are hands-on science kits designed by Lary Lowerey at the Lawerence Hall of Science. Each module comes equipped with enough hnds-on materials for an entire class to be engaged in an activity. Students are asked to observe, compare, relate, organize, analyze, and synthesize information through age-appropriate activities and assesments. - $1000
  • Computer Equipment - Fischer/ Lowder
    This cooperative grant will be used to purchase computer equipment and accompanying software to incorporate computers into high school science curriculum at both NTHS and THS. This will be used extensively in Physics, Chemistry and Physical Science classes and can also be used in cross-curricular lessons involving all computer classes and math classes. - $3234

  • Bilingual Writing Center Software - Bousquet
    Bilingual Writing Center software and Mario Teaches Typing will be purchased with the funds from this grant. This provides both fluent English proficient students and English Learners acces to word processing in the primary language of the home. Students will be able to create and publish writings, books, newspapers and reports in both English and Spanish. - $1438
  • Native Landscaping - Arthur
    A native landscaping project at Kings Beach Elementary will be constructed by the students. They will be assited by thge State Parks natrualist who has been working with their classes since September 1993. In addition, Tahoe Tree Company, the Master Gardener's Club and a local contractor have volunteered their assistance. - $550
  • Art Enrichment - Campion and Dart
    Grades one through three will be involved in a continued application of involving art lessons to enrich subject matter being taught in the classroom. Ann Colling Dart, a local artist, will volunteer part of the time. All classes involved will have specific topics of study which will then be enriched through artistic applications. - $1000

  • Re-establish a Usable Foods Room - Willis
    This grant will re-establish a usable foods room at North Tahoe High School and support a life skills curriculum. Existing appliances are in need of repair and additional equipment will be purchased so the kitchens will be fully functional. - $1000
  • School Newspapper - Brunjes/ Flores
    A school newspapper will be started, with enough funds to generate two issues. The Tahoe World has donated the printing cost as well as the use of some of their equipment. They will distribute the newspapper in the Tahoe World, as well at the school site. The newspapper will be put together by students, with the help of Laura Brunjes who has experience in journalism. - $600
  • Graphing Calculators - Jackson
    In order to implement the state recommended math curriculum graphing calculators are required. This provides a tool to illustrate difficult math concepts. With the visual aid of the graph display, students will thus learn the significance of equations much more effectively through the visual representations. - $1600

  • Cooking Skills - Mccaffrey
    A weekly cooking skills session is included in the curriculum of the Special Ed class in functional life skills for 12 to 15 learning disabled students. This grant will provided the budget for supplies. These cooking skills may be developed for future careers in food services. - $550

    This request is for funds to cover the installation of a dedicated phone line and modem to a computer in the lab and the cost of the line for one year. This will allow students to connect to T-Trec, a local Bulletin Board. Through the use of the modem students can also interact with other schools. - $1078
  • Library Simulations - Freested
    Library simulations will allow students to experience role playing, active participation and inclusion in projects from law, drama, government, debates and a variety of historical events. They provide practice in speech, writing, designing, drawing and cooperating. - $450

    The goal of this grant is to give the special education students at Sierra Mountain Middle School comparable acces to the core curriculum through interactive computer technology. The grant will allow students to utilize interactive computer and laser disk technology on a daily basis. This grant will purchase a Macintosh LC 575, a printer, a built-in CD and software suitable for the needs of special education students. - $2468

    The fourth grade teachers of Sierra Mountain Middle School will be enriching the social studies curriculum by providing a culminating experience of their study of the Mission/Rancho era of California History. This experience is "La Fiesta del Rancho". During "Fiesta Day" 240 students will be dressed in the clothing and experience the lifestyle of a "Californio" for the day, and enjoy the daily life activities of Rancho times. This grant will fund supplies for this very special day. - $1095

    Applied science concepts are presented to K-2nd grade students by Dr. Wickland in a fun and entertaining format. Dr. Wicklands time is totally volunteer and the grant provides funds for equipment. He visits 7 classes for 20 minute sessions once per week. All the kids love to see "Doc". - $1400

  • Repairs for Kiln - Teller and Ritchie
    This grant provides funds for repair of a kiln used by 900 students and 37 instructors. The ceramic kiln is used in a variety of subjects including math, science, social studies and humanities. The kiln repair work has already been completed and is once again all fired up! - $860
  • Musical Instruments - Anderson
    Musical Instruments will be purchased with this grant to be used by all students at Truckee Elementary. The children will use these instruments to accompany themselves in music class and during performances. They will help the children become sensitive listeners and considerate participants. Individually and in groups students will use instruments to study poems, rhymes, game language, songs, dances, math, social studies, and history. - $2164
