  • Environmental Education - Johnson/ Reed
    The Proposal will offer a hands-on, interactive, environmental curriculum to DOnner Trail and TTUSD students. The goal of the program will be to promote an understanding and awareness of the natural environment, cultivate scientific literacy and stimulate stewardship attitudes towards the earth. Funds will be used for microscopes, field guides for plant and animal identification, bug boxes, gardening supplies, binoculars and a camera. - $2080
  • Adopt a Watershed - Joint Proposal
    One of the goals of Adopt A Watershed program is to make science relevant and applicable to students lives by having them apply concepts learned in class to the watershed in which they live. The curriculum contains many hands on lessons that build toward doing a scientific field study, restoration project and community action project in each unit. The funds will be to purchase necessary materials to support the project including curriculum guides and field study kits. - $1544

  • Egg Painting - Yagura
    This project is a multi-site, multi-site workshop to create a series of stories painted on eggs, inspired by what the children have learned about the fragility of the world and caring. Each class will be involved in an in-depth 3 weekcworkshope. Ideas will originate from classroom discussions and by the artist, Cathee van Rossem St. Clair. This program has been previously assisted by the California Arts Council, however they are ineligible for funding this year by this organization. - $5000
  • Physics Optical System - Lowder/ Reed
    Optical Systems consist of an aluminum bench with a magnetic strip for attaching the components. These are used for the study of light and its affects in physics. The components include a high intensity light source, a rotating ray table with grid system, lenses, mirrors, polarizers, color filters, and diffraction gratings. - $3109
  • FOSS Kits - Fahrner
    Full Option Science System Modules (FOSS) are hands-on science kits designed by Larry Lowerey at the at the Lawrence Hall of Science. Each module comes equipped with enough hands-on materials for an entire class to be engaged in an activity. Students are asked to observe, compare, relate, organize, analyze and synthesize information through age-appropriate activities and assesments. - $2655

Glenshire Elementary

  • Library Books - Seagoe
    The new Glenshire Elementary School has only 1500 books in their library and has a population of 450 students. The K-2 level only has 250 books for 240 students in this age group. Funds will be used to increase the number of books for the K-2 level and to increase the fiction collection for the entire school. - $2500
  • Portable Sound System - Anderson
    The school currently does not have a sound system. This money would go towards the purchase of a sound system (total cost $3148) that could be used for concerts, assemblies and plays. - $1500
  • Cross Country Skis - Highfill
    The cross country ski equipment would be available to all students at the school. Skiing will be used to increase students awareness of the region's history and increase appreciation for the enviornment. Self relience and outdoor survival skills will also be taught. - $4000

  • Science Docent Program - Bagan
    The Parent-Teacher organization at Kings Beach Elementary is planning a parent science docent program based on the art docent program. The FOSS curriculum will be used and funds will cover copying cost of instructional materials and purchase of consumables in the modules. They are also hoping to produce a binder that other schools will be able to use to begin their own Science Docent Program. - $1000

  • The Laker - N.T. Newspaper
    The school newspaper is still in its infancy at North Tahoe High and additional monies are required for equipment, books, paper and cameras. - $2235
  • Yearbook Optical Drive - Freested
    Last year the yearbook was produced completely on library computers. No cmputer was big enough to hold the entire year book and tape backup system was borrowed. The optical drive will facilitate the storage of this information and give students an ability to transport it more easily. - $1000
  • Internet Access - Williss
    This proposal will provide Internet-America Online from two computer work stations. Students and faculty will be able to use these computers to learn how to access information on the internet. Phones lines, modems, carts and subscription to Sierranet will be purchased with these funds. - $1680

  • Color Printer - Wilson
    The school computer lab is heavily used by both middle school students and community members. An HP Desk Writer 660 Color Printer will upgrade the production capacity of the lab. The color printer will provide quality printing that students can incorperate into all forms of class work for all classes. - $950
  • Oven Replacement - Neary
    This grant would provide replacement of three four burner electric stoves to make the room usable. The students in a variety of classes would be able to use the stoves to cook and bake, using aspects of many currucula. - $1170

  • Magnetic Ways Kits - O'Lear
    Magnetic Kits will be used in several classes including Science, History, Foriegn Language, and English as a Second Language. They will be used as a hands on manipulative with dozens of colorful, scientifically accurate visuals that can be layered four deep on the magnetic boards to create informative, dynamic scenarios in all areas. - $1000

  • Mural Project - Ritchter/ Dart
    The goal of this project is to enrich the arts prorgram, generate school pride and enhance artistic appreciation of art and nature involving all Rideout Elementary students through a school wide mural project. Students will participate on an indvidual basis as well as in groups in a hands on mural project that will incorporate the students' design and artistic expression of the Lake Tahoe region. - $1270

  • Literature Circles - Weller
    This program invloves reading and discussing books in collaborative groups of three to five students with varied reading levels and experiences. The groups are formed by the seventh and eighth grade students' reading selection. The teacher, as facilitator, has pre-selected the choices of high interest books: non-abridged historical novels, autobiographies, biographies, or novels with strong themes that combine the interdisciplinary humanities units. - $2001
  • Musical Instruments - Humphreys
    The new music program at the school has had very little funding avaliable and it is in need of much more equipment. These funds will be used to purchase additional musical instruments. - $4000

  • Children's Guide to Lake Tahoe - Brollier/ Wickland
    Students at Tahoe Lake School will participate in compliling a children's guide to activities at Lake Tahoe. This guide will incorporate ideas for good times from the point of view of an eight year old. It will be an all-season guide to the bestand often least known activities for this relative age groups. - $1200
  • Tennis Equipment - Ashbaugh/ Leep
    Junior tennis raquets will be purchased along with equipment designed to teach the tennis indoors. Three hundred balls have been donated by a local teaching pro. The Tahoe Lake School has two courts adjecent to the school, but very little tennis equipment. - $1277

  • Literacy Program - Harvey
    Truckee Elementary has embraced the California Task Force's recommendation that all students should read and write at grade level by the end of third grade. This program will include parent involvement, a special tutor program as well as community involvement from both the English and Spanish communities. The funds will be used to purchase instructional books, videos and other materials necessary to organize and carry out the project. - $1601
  • Typing Tutorial Software - Bousquet
    Mario Teaches Typing is a software program which provides both English proficient students and English Learners accses to work processing in a fun yet progressive manner by challenging them in a way which appeals to their need for fun. Thirty copies of this software will be purchased. - $895
  • Life Lab Science - Kyzer
    Life Lab Science gardens are an innovative hands on "living laboratory" approach to elementary science education. It is a comprehensive program of Life, Earth and Physical science where learning is centered within the context of a school garden. This project was partially funded last spring. - $1695

  • Commputer Scanner - Maass
    The technology Center at Truckee High School has requested a Hewlett Packard 3C color scanner. This equipment will enable students to create documents, projects, pamphlets, brochures, and sports and academic programs using original art work, creative computer designs, personal and business logos and other hard copy pictures and photographs. - $1053
  • Encarta Encyclopedia Software - Russell
    Encarta Encyclopedia is a multimedia research resource tool which is very user-friendly. - $970
  • Science Class Computer - Smith
    An IBM compatible computer and printer will be purchased for the Sheltered Biology, Biology, Sheltered Physical Science, Physical Science and Advanced Placement Biology classroom. This computer will serve a variety of needs including experimentaion data, utalization of multi-media software and bilingual science software to act as a tutorial for students ho have not reached the language proficiency needs for science. - $3390
  • Portable Sound System - Kyzer
    A sound reenforcement system will be purchased consisting of lavaliere microphones with transmitters and recievers. The system will be used by classroom teachers, preformance teachers and community groups. This project was partially funded last year. - $2023
  • English as a Second Language Text Books - Robertson/Hutchinson
    Teacher text books, literature books as well as sheltered science and math text books will be purchased with this grant. A variety of sheltered classes are being offered at the high school level, but there are insifficient funds to purchase the necessary books. - $450
