Reading, Science, and Inquiry
The continue to develop students' literacy, math, and inquiry skills while providing rich science experiences.
These resources willl provide teachers with ideas and tools to enhance our science program while continuing to develop literacy, math, and inquiry skills. These resources will be made available for the entire staff and student body.
I'd like to see growth in students' understanding of science concepts through written and oral communication of these ideas. I also expect to see growth in reading comprehension. This will be measured through science notebooks, classroom discussion, teacher observation and written assessments.
I would like to purchase some science and literacy resources to enhance these programs at Tahoe Lake Elementary. I learned about these resources for teachers, written by teachers, at the National Science Teachers Association last spring and would like to have them available for the staff and students at Tahoe Lake. One resource is Writing in Science in Action. This book provides strategies, tools and a support DVD that complements the book Writing in Science, which I purchased at the conference last spring. Another resource is the Picture-Perfect Science Lessons Collections. These resource books provide lessons for teachers that use children’s literature to guide science inquiry. The collection provides the trade books that go with the lessons. This collection of resources would benefit the entire student body, supplying books at the K-6 reading and interest level.
Science, math, and literacy have been a focus for the last few years. We are always stiving for ways to enhance our program and improve our teaching and student success.
