  Comic books that will keep students interested in reading. Program was inspired by Stephen Krashen who states the two most important keys to reading success in young children is having access to reading material that is meaningful to them and having time to read. • 6+1 Writing Literature - Haddy
  The program would enhance the reading, listening and writing skills of the 3rd Grades. The books would be shared among teachers to integrate literature with writing language skills throughout the school year. - $530
• Video Projector - Rohlf
  Video projector capable of presentations from a computer to instruct students K-5 in the computer lab. Students will be able to follow along at their individual computers. A lot of time is lost giving single instruction to each student. - $2500

  This grant will fund Spanish curriculum through language, art, music, food with the purchase of books, educational tools, video's and games. Targets both Rideout and Tahoe Lake. Teachers salary is being paid by the PTO. - $1196

  46 gallon aquarium will allow for an artificial environment to thrive in the classroom. Students will understand aquatic environments, their inhabitants and the relationship between the students and the fragile natural environment. - $506

  "Epicenter Tower" is an earthquake simulation, construction curriculum. Students will investigate earthquakes and how they effect structures. Students will get an in-depth view of earthquakes and their effects on the environment. - $2659

  Tech Works is a program that teaches a comprehensive program that introduces technology skills at appropriate grade levels. The program is comprised of projects linked to other areas of the curriculum. Projects include keyboarding, painting, drawing, graphics, word processing, Internet use and multi media applications. - $1513

• CELL and Exll Training - Teacher Training
  Teacher Training for two teams at each elementary site for this program already in place at Kings Beach Elementary (funded by money not available at all sites.) Effort to coordinate teaching practices District Wide. The program is designed to support English Language Learners and children with special needs. High progress children are encouraged to continue their rapid growth while low progress children are guided through the process with continuous support. Teachers are trained in assessment procedures to improve their observation of children to better inform instruction. Standardized test measures will be used to track both individual, class and school achievement. Currently "English Only" students at Kings Beach have achieved a higher API score than English only students at Glenshire. - $20000
