Description

The objective of this grant is to obtain 10 more Chromebook devices for my classroom to help implement the new Everyday Math curriculum. Recently, our district adopted a new math curriculum for all grade K-5. New to this program is an online portal for teachers, students, and families to access lessons, activities, games, homework, and more. At this time, no grades K-5 have enough technology to fully implement this aspect of the grant to it's full potential. Many teachers facing challenges while trying to implement the resources. I am seeking an additional Chromebook devices to help research, implement, report on, and share findings for this aspect of the curriculum. It is my goal, to report back to the technology departments, teachers, and the curriculum publishers about what I learn. As a result, of what I learn while implementation, I will create troubleshoot resources, hold additional PLC opportunities for teachers, be a resource for questions, and create implementation resource tools. Furthermore, the Everyday Math Connect Ed portal is new;thus the developers need feedback from users to help let them know what is happening when students and teachers use it. As a district, if we need the program to make changes to better meet teachers and students' needs to be consistently reporting  what we see and what we need. I would like to be person one to do this.

Success of Program

The success of this grant will be measured by the level of access to students, level of engagement for students, the level of additional teacher education to come from the grant discoveries, and speed in which technological glitches are reported and fix.

Implementation

Last year, I was on the Classroom Design of the Future team. Through this grant, I obtained 10 devices for students to work on other learning activities. Through the school, I currently have 3 Chromebooks and 1 desktop computer. After speaking with the Director of Technology from the district about this idea, he offered to add 6 more devices from the technology department to support this initiative. . Thus, I am seeking 10 more Chromebooks toward implementing 1:1 computer access during my instruction. From the Classroom of the Future grant last year, I have additional tools such a the Mimio Interactive Whiteboard, instructional TV, and  Mimio Connect License that will all be helpful, in conjunction with student devices to help research the full potential of the technology of Everyday Math.

Notes

While it directly impacts my class for the short term, all students K-5 will benefit from the reporting to Everyday math, teacher PLC, helpful documents for troubleshooting/implementation, and the general sharing of information. On October 5th, I held 3 PLC sessions on Everyday Math technology based on what I already know.
