Description

As part of TTUSD's common assessments and achievement, Kindergarten students are expected to read at Level D as measured by Fountas and Pinnell by the end of the year.  To help support students achieve this goal and to provide effective instruction, our Kindergarten team needs to expand our collections of Level D books.

Benefits of Program

Having a wide selection of choices of appropriately leveled texts for students who are learning to read is crucial to instruction and achievement.  To support all students attainment of Level D, we need to expand our Level D selections.

Success of Program

All Kindergarten students will benefit from the addition of Level D texts to our classroom libraries.  The books will be used in whole class read alouds, small group instruction, and one to one assessment.

Implementation

TTUSD has adopted the Fountas and Pinnell Literacy program for all elementary students, and children are expected to read at Level D by the end of Kindergarten.  Adding to our library collections will help us support the growth of all Kindergarten students.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Yes. Ideally each teacher would have their own Level D box in both fiction and non-fiction, but the texts can be shared.

Books will be used for multiple years and will be well cared for.
