Description

As a Next Generation science school Tahoe Lake Elementary students, at every Grade Level, are deeply involved in scientific exploration and discovery. A major component in student understanding of the Physical Sciences Is their ability to understand what energy is and the transfer of energy. It is very likely that transfer of energy through the light of the sun will only become more efficient in their lifetimes. It falls on us to see that students are prepared for this future by beginning, at the earliest possible age, to think about and engineer uses and solutions inspired by solar technology. The solar panels and most of the equipment in this grant have a lifespan that exceeds 5 years. (the 12 volt battery may be the exception, however I have included the purchase of a battery tender to maximize even its life). This purchase is essentially solar panels, wires and connectors and a battery to store the energy. For better or for worse it is not a kit with a pre-written lesson plan and a predetermined outcome. It is my hope that this approach will give teachers and students the maximum amount of creative flexibility.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Yes, we have discussed this at grade level.

Sustainability
All items have a lifespan of 5 years or more with the exception of the 12volt Battery. However to extend the life of the battery we are including a battery tender in the purchase.
