Description
The second grade team would like to increase our student's exposure to authentic, non-fiction text through the use of magazines. We will provide various options within our own classroom libraries for the student's reading pleasure. These magazines may also be used for project-based learning activities such as animal reports.
Success of Program
Teachers will implement these magazine issues as example of authentic non-fiction text whenever applicable to units we are studying. Also, teachers will pay attention to whether these magazines are "high-interest" options within classroom libraries.
Implementation
Classroom libraries will be filled with monthly magazine issues from Time for Kids, National Geographic Kids, Kids Discovery, and Zoo Books.
Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?
YES! Magazines such as the ones listed above are non-fiction and authentic text; This is exactly what the Common Core Standards call for.
Notes
We would like to get one magazine subscription per 2nd grade classroom for each magazine ie: subscriptions to 4 magazines for 3 classroom teachers.
