Description

The simple objective of this program is to provide classrooms with the tools they need to adaquately differentiate learning opportunities for all students.  Although some items would be specific to sensory or ADHD children, some objects like the Time Timer are available for use with all students.  Decreasing anxiety over daily schedule, transitions and need for movement supports all children.

If teachers and students enjoy the bouncy bands, we would like to eventually expand this pilot program to provide opportunities for movement for all children.

Success of Program

We will be able to measure success and acheivement in multiple arenas. We will be able to track use through IEP goals/assessments. We will be able to use teacher/student feedback.  Counselor/psychologist/teacher/occupational feedback regarding behavior will also contribute to measuring success.

Implementation

Our grant is requesting several different items.

The first item is a Time Timer for every classroom. The cost would be $640

The second item would be part of the pilot program offering 3 bouncy bands for each classroom (including tech, music and science). The cost would be $837 plus tax. 3 per class number was decided based on the statistic that 1 out of 5 kids experience sensory needs so this should meet our current immediate need.

The third item is 4 sets of weighted blankets (a total of 20 blankets) which would provide 1 per class with a few additional left over to distribute based on counselor evaluation of need. $172 plus tax.

The fourth item is 2 sets (total of 4 pillows) of weighted pillows. Each TK and K class would receive the pillow. The total would be $70 plus tax.

The fifth item would be 19 wiggle cushions for each regular education classroom, plus science, tech and music classroom.  Total would be $266 plus tax.

All of the above items are sturdy and we expect them to remain in each classroom for at least 5 years.

Additionally, we are hoping to receive funding for some consumable items.  These consumable items also meet sensory/adhd needs, however they have a shorter shelf life. All consumable items would be distributed based on counselor, psychologist, occupational therapist and teacher consulation.

The first consumable item is 6 zen life chewable necklaces. The total would be $90.

The second consumable would be chewable tops for pens/pencils: 3 packs with 12 individual fidgets total $45.

The third consumable would be fidget pencil toppers. Set of 6, 18 individual fidgets for $45.

The fourth consumable would be puffer balls set of 6 with 24 individual balls. Total would be $28.

The fifth and final consumable would be desk buddy multi-sensory bar - Set of 4 with 12 individual bars. Total is $24
