The first grade teachers at Kings Beach Elementary school are requesting read aloud books in Spanish to support our Writer’s Workshop program. We use the Lucy Calkin’s Writer’s Workshop as our writing curriculum. In first grade at KBE all of our instruction is done in Spanish. The curriculum does not include books in Spanish that we would use to engage and support students in their writing. These books are called “mentor texts” and we have compiled a list to support student learning in specific areas such as writing dialogue, endings, beginnings, descriptive writing, writing a personal narrative, and writing poetry. These mentor texts are quality, engaging books that inspire students and model excellent writing.
